Ohio Dominican University has been around since 2002 and, previously, only two golfers from the school had ever advanced to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship.
Saint Lucia’s Yadhu Urs has now added his name to that list.
Urs, also most likely the first Saint Lucian to achieve the feat, clinched his place after a fourth-place finish and a dramatic playoff at last weekend’s NCAA DII Midwest/Central Regional Qualifiers in St Joseph, Missouri.
Competing at the St Joseph Country Club, a 6,524-yard par-71 course, Urs carded a 2-under 211 across three rounds.
After opening with a 1-over 72, he bounced back with a 2-under 69 on the second day, tying for the third-best score of the round.
He remained steady on the final day, shooting a 1-under 70, making him one of only 10 players to finish under par in at least two rounds.
Urs also tied for the team lead with nine birdies and led the Panthers with 39 pars.
Despite his strong performance, Urs faced a sudden-death playoff against Findlay’s Luke Metzger for the final championship berth.
He sealed his victory with an eagle on the third playoff hole, earning his place in the national tournament, set for May 19–23 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The event will be hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
As a team, Ohio Dominican recorded their best-ever regional finish, tying for ninth place among 20 teams from the Central and Midwest regions.
The Panthers posted a combined score of 877 (+25) over 54 holes, improving from an opening-round 303 to a 4-over 288 and a 2-over 286 in the final two rounds.
