The eighth staging of the MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic is shaping up to be the most exciting yet, with a brand new 2025 Nissan E-Power X-Trail up for grabs for any golfer lucky—and skilled—enough to hit a hole-in-one on the 10th hole at Caymanas Golf and Country Club on Saturday, June 7.
The tournament, hosted by the Munro College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), was officially launched on Wednesday, May 21, at the Fidelity Motors/Nissan Showroom on Hanover Street. With a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., the Stableford-format competition will feature categories for Ladies, Men, Men’s Senior, and Men’s Super Senior, with registration remaining at $8,500, inclusive of lunch.
Speaking at the launch, MCOBA President Victor Tomlinson expressed delight at the response from sponsors and participants.
“Our main prize this year will be a Nissan E-Power X-Trail for a hole-in-one at hole #10,” Tomlinson confirmed. “This is the second time that Fidelity is offering a car as the main prize, and should some lucky golfer win it, then CG United will cover the cost of insurance for this brand-new vehicle.”
With over 80 golfers expected, including international participants, Tomlinson highlighted the broader impact of the event.
“We want to develop good sportsmen and good gentlemen from Munro College. Sports is one of the most important aspects of a boy’s life. Football, track and field, field hockey, tennis, basketball—all sporting programmes should benefit from this tournament.”
Corporate support remains strong, with Keller Williams, Fidelity Motors (Nissan), CG United Insurance, and several others lending their backing. Rochelle Wint, Marketing Director at Keller Williams, noted that her company’s involvement goes beyond business.
“We’ve been a part of the tournament from inception. Our founders are Munro Old Boys, and we believe in the importance of sports in the development of young men. We’re delighted to support this cause every year.”
Deborah Stewart, General Manager of Fidelity Motors Limited, echoed those sentiments.
“Fidelity Motors is proud to sponsor the Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic because we believe in initiatives that foster excellence and community spirit. The commitment shown by the Munro Old Boys is impressive, and their investment has made a significant impact on youth development in Jamaica.”
The tournament honours the late Lindy Delapenha, a Munro College alumnus and one of Jamaica’s most versatile athletes—excelling in football, athletics, and golf. His legacy of sportsmanship and excellence lives on through this annual event.
Other key sponsors include JMMB, Regency Petroleum, JamGas, Jamaica Inn, Spanish Court Hotel, and Jewel Paradise Cove Resort and Spa.
With competition, camaraderie, and community at its heart, the 2024 MCOBA/Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic promises a thrilling day on the course—and possibly, a life-changing swing for one lucky golfer.
