St. Catherine CC through to final of Michael Holding Senior Cup; quarterfinal between Clarendon CA and Trelawny CA replayed after wrong size ball used

2023 champions St. Catherine Cricket Club booked their spot in the final of the 2025 Michael Holding Senior Cup thanks to a first innings victory over defending champions, Kingston Cricket Club, in their semi-final at Chedwin Park in St. Catherine last weekend.

Kingston were restricted to 177 all out in 37.1 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Derval Green led the way with 54 off 51 balls while Odean Smith made a 26-ball 40 including five fours and two sixes.

Jeavor Royal led the St. Catherine bowling with his 4-48 off 9.1 overs of left-arm spin while Ralique Thomas and Rovman Powell picked up two wickets, each, in support.

The former West Indies T20 captain then hit a brilliant 144 off 166 balls including 14 fours and six sixes to lead St. Catherine to 319 all out in 72.1 overs.

Trevaughn Williams and Royal played well for 41 and 40, respectively.

Derval Green picked up 4-31 from 6.2 overs to lead the Kingston bowling.

Kingston, in their second innings, then got up to 192-5 in 39 overs on Sunday before play ended.

Kirk McKenzie (40), Romaine Morris (39) and Jevaughn Buchanan (34) were the chief scorers against 3-50 off eight overs of left-arm wrist spin from Vitel Lawes.

St. Catherine’s opponent in the final will be determined next week when Clarendon Cricket Association takes on Kensington Cricket Club in the second semi-final.

That game was originally supposed to take place last weekend but the quarter-final round game between Clarendon and Trelawny CA was ordered to be replayed after it was determined that the wrong size ball was used for a part of the game.

The game was started with a 4.75-ounce ball before a regular 5.5-ounce ball was available. The 5.5-ounce ball was then used for the remainder of the game after it was made available.

Just as they did originally, Clarendon made light work of Trelawny with a first innings win at Jamalco.

Clarendon made 345-5 declared in 73 overs after being put in to bat thanks to Odaine McCatty’s 204* off 253 balls including 21 fours and two sixes.

Trelawny were then dismissed for 164 in 55.3 overs in reply thanks to three-wicket hauls from Jermaine Thomas and Perico Henry.

Clarendon then reached 181-6 in their second innings when they game ended. Randre Christie led the way with 115 off 92 balls including 16 fours and three sixes.
