Former Soca Warriors goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop, was filled with pride as he addressed the crowd at Show Racism the Red Card’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the gardens at 10 Downing Street.

Show Racism the Red Card in the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity and was established in 1996 thank, in part, to Hislop who was, then, goalkeeper for Newcastle United.

The organization’s purpose is to harness the high-profile nature of footballers as anti-racist role models to educate against racism throughout society in the United Kingdom.

“A surreal and proud moment. Yesterday, I stood inside 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hosted Show Racism the Red Card’s All of Fame induction ceremony in the gardens of that storied address,” Hislop, the organization’s honorary President, said in a statement on social media on Tuesday.

“It was great to again share laughs with old friends, to share a space with so many who have given of themselves over the nearly 30 years of this organization’s history,” Hislop added.

Show Racism the Red Card utilizes a number of ways to educate society on racism including an annual schools competition where young people produce their own work against racism in the form of posters, poems, animations and films.

The organization’s Hall of Fame includes the likes of Thierry Henry, Ian Wright, John Barnes, Gareth Southgate and Sol Campbell among many others.

“From where this campaign began to where it is now, it’s hard not to be both moved and inspired. Grateful for the platform, the people and the progress…the reminder there’s still work to do,” Hislop said.
