Jamaican sprint star Shericka Jackson opened her 2025 100m season with a commanding victory at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, clocking 11.04 seconds to secure the win against a competitive field. The reigning world 200m champion surged through the final 40 meters to edge out Liberia's Maia McCoy, who finished second in 11.08 seconds, and American Jacious Sears, who took third in 11.11 seconds.
Jackson's performance marked a strong return to form after a challenging start to the season. Despite a slower reaction time out of the blocks, she displayed her trademark top-end speed to overtake the field in the latter half of the race. This victory serves as a significant confidence boost ahead of the Jamaican National Championships in late June and the upcoming World Championships.
Maia McCoy, representing Liberia, delivered an impressive performance, finishing second with a time of 11.08 seconds. McCoy, who previously ran 11.10 seconds at the Doha Diamond League, continues to show strong form this season. American sprinter Jacious Sears also showcased her speed, securing third place in 11.11 seconds.
The Rabat Diamond League meet featured a strong lineup in the women's 100m, including athletes like Cambrea Sturgis, Celera Barnes, and Zoe Hobbs. However, it was Jackson's late-race surge that ultimately secured her the top spot on the podium.
With this victory, Jackson sets a positive tone for the rest of her season as she aims to defend her world title and continue her dominance in the sprinting world.
