The Windward Islands Women held their nerve to secure a gritty three-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago in a low-scoring contest on Monday at the Arnos Vale Ground in the ongoing CWI T20 Blaze.

Chasing a modest target of 73, the Windwards recovered from a shaky start—losing their top four batters for just 10 runs—to reach 73-7 in 18.2 overs. The run chase was anchored by Carena Noel, who top-scored with 25 from 37 balls, and wicketkeeper Earnisha Fontaine, whose unbeaten 11 off 30 balls provided the calm presence required to guide her side home.

Trinidad and Tobago’s veteran spinner Anisa Mohammed made early inroads, finishing with impressive figures of 3-12 from her four overs. She was well supported by Steffie Soogrim, who claimed 2-13, and Samara Ramnath, who added another wicket in her 3.2 tidy overs.

Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago Women struggled with the bat after being put in to bat first. Only Britney Cooper (20* off 46 balls) managed to provide any resistance in a laboured innings that closed at 72-8 from their 20 overs. The Windward Islands bowling attack was relentless, led by Selena Ross, who returned figures of 2-5 from her four overs, including two maidens.

Zaida James (2-9) and Afy Fletcher (2-10) also played key roles in stifling the scoring, as no batter other than Cooper managed to reach double figures until late in the innings.

The Windwards’ clinical performance with the ball set the tone for their eventual triumph, despite a scare in the chase. The win marks an important bounce-back for the team as they continue their campaign in the T20 Blaze, while Trinidad and Tobago will be left to reflect on a missed opportunity in a match dominated by the bowlers.
