Olympic and World Championship 100m finalist Oblique Seville believes competing in the sprint double on the Grand Slam Track circuit will benefit him at the World Championships later this year in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old had an excellent start to his 2025 season. Seville opened his season at the Camperdown Classic on February 8 with a 47.03 effort in the 400m before going down to the 200m with a 20.53 clocking at Velocity Fest #16 on March 22.

Since then, the former Calabar High standout has competed at the Grand Slam Track events in Kingston and Miami from April 4-5 and May 3-4, respectively.

He ran 10.08 and 20.43 to finish second and fifth in Kingston before a pair of runner-up finishes in Miami with times of 9.84 (2.4m/s) and a personal best of 20.13.

Seville, speaking to TrackalertsTV on Friday ahead of the Atlanta City Games on Saturday, spoke about the benefits of competing in the sprint double on the Grand Slam circuit.

“It’s actually going to help me with the rounds at the World Championships,” he said.

“The World Championships are in September so I think these races now will be beneficial for me later in the season,” he added.

Seville was also asked about whether or not his flame out in the final of the 100m at last year’s Paris Olympics influenced his decision to compete in Grand Slam Track.

He pushed back on that notion, putting his performance in the final down to the re-aggravation of an injury he suffered at the National Championships.

“What happened at the Olympics was uncontrollable because I was injured after my National trials and I was hoping that the injury wouldn’t occur at the Olympics but it actually did, unfortunately,” he said.
