Jamaican high jumper Lamara Distin continued her strong outdoor season with a second-place finish at the 75th Boris Hanžeković Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event held Friday evening in the Croatian capital.

Competing in cool, overcast conditions, the 2022 NCAA champion cleared a season-best 1.92 metres to secure the silver medal behind Serbia’s Angelina Topić, who won with a mark of 1.94 metres. Italy’s Idea Pieroni rounded out the podium in third, managing a clearance of 1.90 metres.

Distin, who entered the competition at 1.80m, produced a near-flawless series through to 1.92m, clearing every height on her first attempt. She fell just short at 1.94m with three unsuccessful tries, while Topić needed three attempts to get over that bar and take the win.

The performance marked a season’s best for Distin, whose previous outdoor best in 2025 had stood at the 1.90m mark. It was also her best showing in a European competition so far this year and signals her readiness as the build-up continues toward the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The high jump field in Zagreb featured a quality lineup as part of the Zagreb City Challenge, with several of Europe’s emerging talents using the meet as a key preparatory stop on the Continental Tour.

The meet continues on Saturday with the much-anticipated track events.
