Saint Lucian Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred and Olympic Triple Jump silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts were among the winners on Saturday’s second day of the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial, this season’s fourth World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Zagreb on Saturday.
Saint Lucia’s Alfred cruised to 200m triumph in 22.15 (-0.8m/s) and was followed by Spain’s Jael Bestue (22.92) and Hungary’s Bolgarka Takacs (23.22).
Rickets jumped out to a season’s best 14.54m to take the win in the Women’s Triple Jump ahead of Slovenia’s Neja Filipic (14.42m) and Sweden’s Maya Askag (14.00m).
Thursday’s day one saw Olympic and World Championship Long Jump silver medallist Wayne Pinnock jump 7.77m for fourth behind Japan’s Yuki Hashioka (8.00m), and the Croatian pair of Filip Pravdica (7.98m) and Roko Farkas (7.83m).
Jamaican Olympic and World champion Omar McLeod ran 13.40 for second in the Men’s equivalent behind the USA’s Dylan Beard who ran 13.20 for the win. Austria’s Enzo Diessl ran 13.70 for third.
Bahamian Denisha Cartwright was fourth in the Women’s 100m hurdles in 13.07 behind Slovenia’s Nikola Glojnaric (13.01), Hungary’s Luka Kozak (12.88) and the USA’s Alaysha Johnson (12.82).
