'Lara my go to guy' - Bravo credits Windies legend for being constant source of motivation

Windies batsman Darren Bravo has credited cricket legend Brian Lara with not being a tremendous source of motivation but also a dependable source of advice in tough times.

The 28-year-old often noted for being similar in appearance at the crease to his famous cousin has revealed that the comparison might be a bit more than co-incidental.

“Other than being a world-class batsman, what I most admire about him is the fact that when I am not doing well at my game, I can pick up my phone to message or call him and he is always willing to give advice,” Bravo explained in a recent interview with Espncricinfo.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Trinidadian has credited Lara with being behind a significant performance at the crease.  After scoring his first Test century in the Caribbean in 2014, Bravo revealed that Lara had spoken to him regarding his concentration a little ahead of the innings.  Last year following a match-winning ODI ton against South Africa in a tri-series, which also included Australia, Bravo was quick to point to a late night message from the legendary batsman as key to the outstanding performance.

“Whenever he gives me advice, I am guaranteed to score runs in the next innings. He is always my go-to guy when I am under pressure. On any given day, he will just message to find out if everything is okay, not only cricket-related. He is always looking out for me and I appreciate that.”
