Fifties from captain Joshua Dorne, Zachary Carter and Xaundre Baptiste propelled the Barbados Under-19s to their second win in as many games to begin the defense of their West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 Championship in St. Kitts.

The young Bajans secured a dominant 144-run win over the Trinidad & Tobago Under-19s on Sunday at the Conaree Sports Club.

Barbados posted an imposing 295-8 from their 50 overs after winning the toss and batting first.

Dorne, who represented West Indies Under-19s at the last year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup, led the scoring with a 100-ball 79 including four fours batting at number three.

He was well supported by opener Zachary Carter who made 78 off just 62 balls including five fours and six sixes while Xaundre Baptiste, batting at number eight, made 57 off 54 balls including six fours.

Leg-spinner Aneal Rooplal led the bowling effort for the young Trinidadians with 3-56 from his 10 overs while pacer and captain Abdul-Raheem Toppin took 2-68 from his 10 overs.

Trinidad & Tobago, in reply, managed just 151 in 34 overs, mainly due to pacer R’Jai Gittens’ second four-wicket haul of the tournament.

Gittens picked up 4-63 from his 10 overs, with three of those wickets coming in the first powerplay of 10 overs.

Left-arm pacers Jakeem Pollard and Zachary Carter were also excellent in support, picking up 2-13 off five overs and 2-17 off six overs, respectively.

Fareez Ali led the way with the bat for Trinidad & Tobago with 30 while Cristian Rampersaud made 27.
