Jamaican Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson comfortably won the men’s 100m at the Prefontaine Classic at the Hayward Field in Oregon on Saturday.
The 23-year-old, who became a two-time Jamaican National 100m champion last week, recovered from a less than ideal start to power past a loaded field and get his first win in his second appearance at the meet.
Thompson’s winning time was 9.85, made even more impressive when you consider the fact that he ran his personal best 9.75 to win the Jamaican title just eight days ago.
Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes ran a season’s best 9.91 to take second while American Trayvon Bromell was third in 9.94.
Another Jamaican, Ackeem Blake, was fifth in 10.03, behind American Brandon Hicklin (9.98).
"I'm the only one that can stop me," Thompson said confidently after the race.
"I don't say that to brag but, to be honest, once I better my execution, amazing things are going to happen," he added.
He was also grateful for the competitiveness of the race.
"I'm really appreciative of it. It will only help me to get better," he said.
