American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden handed St. Lucian Olympic champion Julien Alfred her first loss of the season in the 100m at the Prefontaine Classic at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.

Jefferson-Wooden, the current world leader in the event thanks to her 10.73 at the Philadelphia Grand Slam Track event in June, maintained her composure against a fast-closing Alfred to earn the victory in a fast 10.75.

Alfred’s time in second was 10.77 while the Ivory Coast’s Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith ran a season’s best 10.90 in third.

Newly crowned Jamaican champion Tina Clayton was fourth in 11.02.
