Arnett Gardens Football Club will begin their search for a new head coach after Xavier Gilbert confirmed to Sportsmax.TV that he has resigned from his role at the Jamaica Premier League club.

Gilbert, who joined the St. Andrew-based outfit two seasons ago, revealed that his contract had expired and negotiations were underway for a renewal when another opportunity emerged—one that he intends to pursue.

“My contract ended, and we were in the process of discussing a new deal when something else came up,” Gilbert told Sportsmax.TV. “You will be hearing about it soon.”

Gilbert, who also serves as assistant coach of Jamaica’s senior women’s national team, the Reggae Girlz, enjoyed a solid tenure with the Junglists. He took over from former Reggae Boyz striker Paul “Tegat” Davis and guided the team to back-to-back third-place finishes in the Jamaica Premier League. His biggest accomplishment came in 2023, when he led Arnett Gardens to the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield title, earning them a berth in last year’s CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship.

Despite his departure, sources indicate that the split was amicable, and the club has already begun the process of identifying a new head coach ahead of the upcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield tournament scheduled to kick off in late July.

Gilbert, meanwhile, may not be out of the Jamaica Premier League for long. Several top-flight clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring his services for the upcoming season.

His next move, though still under wraps, is expected to be announced in the coming days.
