Highly-rated Reggae Boyz center back Richard King looks set to become Scottish Premier League side St. Mirren’s second signing of the summer transfer window if reports from the Scottish Herald are true.
The 23-year-old will make the move to Paisley from Cavalier SC, the team he has led to back-to-back Jamaica Premier League titles.
A nominal fee was agreed with the club, with a sell-on included, with King having signed a two-year deal with St Mirren holding the option for a third season.
The transfer deal is thought to be concluded with only formalities to be finalized before the club announce their latest transfer signing, following Roland Idowu's move from Shrewsbury.
A work permit hearing for King, which is not expected to cause any major concern, is expected to take place before the end of the week.
The summer transfer window will officially open on Monday, June 16. As yet, it is unclear when King's deal will be announced other than following the work permit hearing and decision.
King is looked at as an ideal replacement for defender Richard Taylor who started 23 games for the Buddies in las season’s SPL in the center of defense. He has left the club to join Bolton Wanderers.
King's natural leadership qualities and ball playing abilities will prove useful to a St. Mirren team that finished sixth in last season's Scottish Premier League.
Defensively, they gave up 54 goals in their 33 matches.
King has one previous season of European experience. He spent a season on loan at Icelandic club IBV in 2023.
