A double-hundred from captain Marques Ackerman put South Africa “A” in a dominant position over the West Indies “A” halfway through the first of two Four Day matches at the Daren Sammy National Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
The South Africans entered Tuesday’s day two 68-0 in 15 overs after bowling the West Indians out for 240 in 63.4 overs.
Ackerman, who came to the crease at number three in the second over of the day, batted beautifully on his way to 209 off just 170 balls.
The 29-year-old his 32 fours and two sixes on his way to his highest score in first-class cricket with his previous best being 140.
Wicket-keeper batsman Rivaldo Moonsamy finished the day 68* while Jason Smith (56) and Jordan Hermann (52) also hit half-centuries.
The tourists also got good contributions from Sinethemba Qeshile (48) and Prenelan Subrayen (31*).
South Africa “A” ended the day 546-6 in 105 overs, leading the West Indies “A” by 306 runs.
Pacer Ojay Shields was the most successful bowler on a tough day for the West Indians with 2-90 from his 15 overs.
