Florida’s Charlton takes long jump title as Caribbean athletes shine on day two of SEC Championships

Bahamian Florida junior Anthaya Charlton took top spot in the final of the Women’s Long Jump to highlight a number of excellent Caribbean performances on day two of the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships in Kentucky.

Charlton produced a best jump of 6.47m in the third round of the final to claim top prize ahead of Alabama sophomore Mariia Horielova (6.37m) and Texas A&M freshman Sofia Iakushina (6.18m).

Charlton also advanced to the final of the Women’s 100m with an 11.36 clocking to finish second in her heat behind LSU sophomore Tima Godbless (11.29).

The Men’s 100m saw Caymanian LSU sophomore Jaiden Reid book his spot in the final with a 10.14 clocking to finish second in his heat behind teammate Jelani Watkins (10.07).

Jamaican Georgia junior Dejanea Oakley ran 51.15 to win her heat and advance second-fastest overall to the final of the Women’s 400m.

The Men’s equivalent saw Jamaican Georgia senior Shemar Chambers advance seventh-fastest with 45.59 to win his heat.

Jamaican Florida freshman Habiba Harris ran a personal best and SEC-leading 12.62 to advance fastest to the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles while, in the Men’s 110m hurdles, Jamaican LSU junior Jahiem Stern was third-fastest in the heats with 13.42.
