2018 World Under-20 double sprint champion Briana Williams has vowed to come back stronger after a disappointing showing at the JAAA/Puma National Senior and Junior Championships held from June 26-29 at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Williams failed to reach the final of the 100m and was disqualified from the 200m final after a false start.
She opened her championships with an 11.37 clocking for second in her heat on Thursday before running 11.20 to finish third in her semi-final on Friday.
What made the performance even more disappointing was that just two weeks prior to the championships, Williams, at the Last Chance Sprint Series Distance Carnival in Sherman Oaks, California, looked to be close to returning to her best form.
In two 100m races and one 200m contest, the 23-year-old produced times of 11.03, 11.04 and 22.69, winning all three races.
In a statement on Instagram, Williams offered her gratitude to those who reached out to her after her tough few days.
“My deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has taken the time to reach out with words of encouragement, support and love. Your well wishes and prayers have touched my heart in ways you may never know,” Williams said.
“To my beloved Jamaica, I’m forever grateful for the unwavering love and support you’ve consistently shown me. Though trials wasn’t the way how I expected it to be, I will use this as fuel to come back stronger. It’s not over yet,” she added.
