Excitement is mounting ahead of this weekend’s eighth staging of the MCOBA-Lindy Delapenha Golf Classic, with organizers reporting strong registration numbers and the potential for a fully subscribed field by tee time on Saturday morning.
The popular charity event, hosted by the Munro College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), will see 88 golfers tee off from a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. on the picturesque fairways of the Caymanas Golf Club.
Among those returning to defend their titles are Dane Marsh, who topped the leaderboard among Munro College alumni last year, and Clifton Johnson, the reigning overall champion. The tournament’s history also includes a landmark moment in 2022, when Diane Hudson became the first and only female winner to date.
A major attraction this year will again be centered around the famed hole #10, which has earned a reputation for its high-stakes drama. Last year, sponsors Fidelity Motors (Nissan Jamaica) and GC United Insurance raised the stakes by offering a brand-new car to any golfer who could achieve a hole-in-one at that location—though no one managed to claim the prize.
That offer returns this year, with even more on the line. Fidelity Motors is back with an upgraded reward: a 2025 Nissan E-Power X-Trail, while GC United Insurance will cover the vehicle’s insurance should any golfer manage the elusive ace.
“Saturday promises a wonderful day of golfing at the salubrious Caymanas golf course with exciting prizes to be won inclusive of a car at hole #10 for anyone lucky enough to hit a hole-in-one,” said Victor Tomlinson, President of the Munro College Old Boys Association.
To complement the action, organizers are also turning hole #10 into a vibrant social hub. “We are planning a little party at hole #10,” Tomlinson shared. “Liquid refreshments will be provided by the award-winning National Rums of Jamaica (Monymusk). They will be offering drinks to the golfers as they pass by as well as at the end of the day’s play which should be somewhere around noon.”
Golfers will get to sample Monymusk’s finest offerings, including their Special Reserve 10-Year-Old, Gold Classic 5-Year-Old, and White Rum—ensuring that even if no one drives home in the X-Trail, there’ll still be plenty to toast to.
With great prizes, good company, and a celebratory atmosphere, the 2024 MCOBA-Linday Delapenha Golf Classic is shaping up to be a memorable day on and off the course.
