With the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup set to kick off on Saturday and over 30 games scheduled to take place in and around Los Angeles, organizers have moved to reassure teams, fans, and officials amid rising tensions and ongoing protests in the Greater LA area.
Concacaf released a statement on Wednesday confirming that it is “closely monitoring” the evolving situation and remains in constant contact with local authorities, host venues, and national teams as preparations for the region’s premier tournament enter their final stages.
"The safety and well-being of all participants, fans, and stakeholders is the Confederation’s highest priority. We will continue to actively monitor developments as we work toward delivering a world-class tournament that highlights the best of our sport in a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all," the organization stated.
Large-scale demonstrations across parts of Los Angeles this week have drawn attention both locally and internationally, prompting organizers to weigh contingency planning while affirming their commitment to fan and player safety. So far, there have been no changes announced to the tournament’s opening fixture, which will take place on Saturday, June 14, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
The Gold Cup, held every two years, brings together the top national teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. With thousands of fans expected to descend on venues in Los Angeles and elsewhere around the United States, as well as Vancouver in Canada, for the tournament’s opening weekend, security measures have taken on renewed significance.
This year's edition of the Gold Cup comes at a crucial time for regional football, with eyes already on next summer’s expanded FIFA World Cup.
