Accrington manager John Coleman took heart from a point and a clean sheet after their goalless draw with Doncaster.
The Reds missed the chance to go back into the play-off places as, in horrendous conditions at the Wham Stadium, they had to settle for a draw against mid-table Rovers.
Josh Andrews had the best chance of the first half for Stanley when he was put clean through, but goalkeeper Louis Jones denied him.
Stanley pressed around the Rovers box in the second half without seriously troubling Jones and Doncaster almost snatched it in the 85th minute when a Harrison Biggins header crashed against the crossbar.
Reds boss Coleman said: “It’s one of them, you play the conditions first and the opposition second, both teams do, but I was pleased with the way we handled it.
“I thought they had the better of the opening exchanges. In the first five or six minutes they flashed a couple of balls into our box.
“But after that we took control of the game. They hit the bar late on, but apart from that I thought we defended really well and asked more questions than them, but you just haven to be ruthless when the chances come.
“We have to take heart from a solid defensive performance. We were well organised, everyone stood up to the task, the back four played well as did the goalkeeper Joe Walsh on his debut.
“We are disappointed we haven’t won, but we can take heart from the fact we have kept a clean sheet. It’s a step forward after conceding four last time out at home.”
Doncaster are in 17th place and boss Grant McCann said: “There weren’t many clear-cut chances in the game. It was scrappy, not much football was played, and the conditions were shocking.
“It’s a good point, it’s a tough place to come and a lot of teams would have folded under the conditions and the crowd. I have got to credit our supporters who were soaking wet.
“Games like this, it’s about individual qualities to win it and that did not happen today. We thought Harrison’s header might just dip under the bar, but it wasn’t to be.
“Credit to the lads, though, as they kept going, showed a great attitude and made sure they kept the ball out of the net.
“Over the last 12 games, we are in the top six in the form table and that’s credit to the players, especially because of the bad luck we have had with injuries this season.
“I have never known it so bad. There are five or six players we won’t see again this season.
“But we take a point and we move on.”

"It really was amazing when the [Tottenham-Manchester City] match finished," he smiled. "At the beginning of the season, it was really a dream. Of course, we worked hard to try to be there.
"I want to get better, and I have my dreams, and I believe in my dreams. Of course, my objectives are to win the Premier League or the Champions League. We are not contenders, but it is our dream to achieve something like that."
Meanwhile, Palace have enjoyed a strong finish to the season, winning five of their last six games.
The Eagles could seal a top-half finish with a victory – and other results going their way – and Oliver Glasner has urged his players to use that as inspiration at Selhurst Park.
"I'm pleased with the performances we've had," he said. "We want to win. We always focus on what we can influence. If we don't do our job, we don't win, we can't be 10th. It's good motivation at home to say thank you to the fans."

By contrast, Villa have only won once in the 25 occasions they have finished a league campaign with an away game (drawn seven, lost 17).
That sole victory came against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2001-02.
On a brighter note, Villa are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League away games in London, winning five of their six this term.
With 16 such points this season, a win or draw here would set a new Premier League record for the most achieved during a single campaign.
Although, you must go back to their title-winning season of 1980-81 for the last time they completed a league double over Palace.

Al-Nassr 1-1 Al-Hilal: Mitrovic scores last-gasp penalty
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a penalty in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time as Al-Hilal denied Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr victory in a 1-1 draw.
Mitrovic netted his 27th Saudi Pro League goal of the campaign after Sadio Mane was harshly judged to have fouled Saud Abdulhamid in the area.
Mane stuck out an arm to shield the ball, catching his opponent in the throat, though the contact appeared to have been outside of the box.
Mitrovic made no mistake to keep Al-Hilal's unbeaten campaign going.
The Serbian's spot-kick cancelled out Otavio's first-minute opener, with Ronaldo having set up his compatriot.
Champions Al-Hilal remain 12 points clear of Al-Nassr at the summit of the Pro League standings.

Al-Ittihad pegged back as winless run rolls on
Mohamed Sherif scored late on as Al-Ittihad's winless run in the Saudi Pro League stretched to four games after a 1-1 draw with Al-Khaleej.
Al-Ittihad have endured a miserable title defence, and with just two games remaining, the highest the big-spending, PIF-backed club can finish is fourth.
Muhannad Al Shanqiti put them ahead on the stroke of half-time, yet despite having a further eight shots and accumulating 1.07 xG in the second half, Al-Ittihad could not add another.
Their profligacy proved costly in the 81st minute, with Egypt international Sherif snatching an equaliser for 11th-placed Al-Khaleej.
Al-Tai moved out of the relegation zone with a surprise 3-1 win over seventh-placed Al-Fateh, with Bernard Mensah scoring twice.
