Sunil Ambris delivered a stellar all-round performance on Thursday to guide Salt Pond Breakers to a five-wicket victory over La Soufriere Hikers in the 24th match of the Vincy Premier League T10 at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.
The former West Indies batter was at the heart of the Breakers’ success, claiming 3-8 from two miserly overs before smashing a vital 30 off 17 balls to earn Player of the Match honours in a clinical run chase.
La Soufriere Hikers, who won the toss and opted to bat, posted 106-5 in their allotted 10 overs. The innings was disrupted early when Dejourn Charles retired hurt after a brisk 10. Jeheil Walters (21 off 13) gave them a solid start, but Ambris halted the momentum, removing Walters, Daniel Williams (6), and Dillon Douglas (9) in quick succession to stifle the middle order.
Javel St Paul (19* off 13) and Rayan Williams (13 off 7) added some late resistance, but the total proved below par, especially with Ambris in inspired form.
In response, the Breakers wasted little time. Romano Pierre set the tone with a blistering 28 off 10 balls, while Daniel McDonald (14 off 5) and Ryan John (17* off 8) provided valuable contributions. Ambris, batting at number three, mixed aggression with composure, striking one four and three sixes in a brisk knock before falling with his side in sight of victory.
The Breakers completed the chase in just 8.3 overs, reaching 111-5 with nine deliveries to spare.
