During the first One-Day International between the West Indies Women and South Africa Women at the 3ws Oval in Barbados on Wednesday, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews had the opportunity to join an exclusive club that included only 27 women, among them only two West Indians.

The 27-year-old entered the game needing 30 runs to join the 3000 ODI-run club alongside Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin.

Matthews made 40 in a winning cause as the hosts defeated South Africa via the Duckworth Lewis Stern method to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The Bajan continues to add to her impressive resume. Her ODI career numbers now stand at 3010 runs in 94 innings at an average of 33.82 and a strike rate of 76.06.

For context, Taylor brought up 3000 runs in 81 innings while Dottin’s 3000th run came in her 118th innings.

Her conversion rate is also among the best we’ve ever seen in the format as she currently has nine centuries compared to seven fifties.

Those nine centuries are the most by a West Indian and the fifth-most all time. Taylor has seven and 41 fifties while Dottin has three and 22 fifties.

In terms of total runs in the format, Taylor has a massive lead with 5856, the fourth-most all time, while Dottin has 3785.

Taylor has played 168 matches in the format while Dottin has played 149.

Only 97 matches into her ODI career, Matthews will surely challenge those numbers if she can avoid injuries and maintain her stellar level of performance.
