Jordan Scott lived up to his billing as favourite in the men’s triple jump, as he delivered when it mattered most to claim the national title on the final day of the JAAA/Puma National Senior Championships at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Competing against a youthful field, Scott, 28, uncorked a wind-assisted leap of 17.15 metres (2.8 m/s) to comfortably take top honours ahead of teenage prodigy Chavez Penn of Jamaica College, who produced a credible 16.53m for second. Calabar High’s Romaine Lewis rounded out the podium with 15.54m.
While Scott’s performance did not reflect the most polished series, as he registered a couple of no-marks and inconsistent phases, he again showed the maturity and technique that have made him a constant fixture on the Diamond League circuit.
Among the other notable performers, Safin Wills of the University of Oregon placed fourth with 15.40m, while Javar Thomas and Jamar Reid followed with marks of 14.85m and 14.38m, respectively.
