Jereem Richards has revealed that his US$100,000 prize from Grand Slam Track will go toward securing his family’s future, particularly for his daughter, following his standout performances in Miramar, Florida, over the weekend.

The Trinidad and Tobago Olympian earned a combined 20 points across the men’s 200m and 400m events at the Ansin Sports Complex—just four shy of the series maximum. On Friday, Richards blazed to 19.86 to win the 200m, collecting 12 points. He followed up with a strong run in the 400m on Saturday, clocking 44.32 to finish second behind American Jacory Patterson (43.98), picking up another eight points and the top payout among the sprinters.

In a post-race interview with Omiliasports, the 2022 Commonwealth champion said that while jokes were made following the race about buying a Lamborghini—a playful exchange he shared with Grand Slam Track Commissioner Michael Johnson and other officials—his actual plans were more grounded.

“Before I was going by Lambeau, it was all a joke,” Richards said, smiling. “I’m going to see if I invest, because I just set stuff up for my family—for my daughter. So it’s just investments.”

Richards also took time to thank those closest to him.

“All my family in Trinidad—my wife, my daughter, my mom, my dad, my sister, my brother, my aunties, my uncles, my cousins, my close friends... I appreciate the love and support through the good times and the bad times. Truly.”

While not the overall points leader across all Grand Slam Track categories, Richards emerged as the top male sprinter after the Miami leg, with his blend of speed and consistency proving to be both tactically smart and financially rewarding.
