Jamaica reaffirmed its sprint hurdles supremacy on the final day of the 52nd CARIFTA Games in Trinidad and Tobago, winning three of the four sprint hurdles finals and setting a new championship record in the U20 Boys 110m hurdles.

The standout moment came from Shaquane Gordon, who stormed to victory in the U20 Boys 110m hurdles, clocking 13.19 seconds in a headwind of -1.4 m/s to break the 10-year-old championship record of 13.23 set by Guadeloupe’s Wilhem Belocian in 2014.

Adding to the historic performance, Daniel Clarke, also of Jamaica, ran 13.21 to claim the silver medal — meaning both Jamaican athletes went under the previous record, underlining the nation’s incredible depth in the event. Tahj Brown of The Bahamas was third in 13.82.

In the U17 Girls 100m hurdles, Malayia Duncan led a Jamaican 1-2, winning gold in 13.34 seconds, followed by Nickayla Russell in 13.71. Jasmine Thompson of The Bahamas took bronze in 14.33.

Tiana Marshall added another title for Jamaica in the U20 Girls 100m hurdles, winning in 13.50 seconds, ahead of Barbados’ Maya Rollins (13.80). Jamaican teammate Bryana Davidson secured bronze with a 13.82 clocking, giving Jamaica two medals in each of the three hurdles races they won.

The only sprint hurdles title to elude the Jamaicans came in the U17 Boys 110m hurdles, where Jahcario Wilson of The Bahamas took gold in 13.70. Jamaica’s Brandon Bennett and Mark-Daniel Allen were second and third in 14.08 and 14.30, respectively — again ensuring a two-medal finish for the island.
