Jamaican Oklahoma junior Ralford Mullings pulled off a stunning upset to claim the men’s discus title on Friday’s day three of the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Mullings produced a personal best and meet record 69.31m to get the better of world record holder and California junior Mykolas Alekna (66.77m) and Virginia Tech sophomore Uladzislau Puchko (63.94m).

Mullings produced an excellent card after recording a foul in the first round.

He followed that up with 65.92m, 67.70m, 65.92m and 67.48m from rounds two to five before unleashing his new personal best in the sixth and final round.

Alekna only had two legal throws, 66.44 in the first round and 66.77m in the fifth round. The 22-year-old Lithuanian established a new world record 75.56m earlier this season.
