Jamaica to send first ever teams to Youth Pan Am Hockey tourney

The Jamaica Hockey Federation will be sending two teams to the 2018 Youth Pan American Hockey Championships that is to be held in Guadalajara Mexico from March 10 to 17, 2018.

This is the first time that Jamaica will be entering a youth (Under 18) championship. Should the team be successful it will qualify Jamaica for the Youth Olympics in Argentina from October 6-18, 2018.

The boy’s team will be captained by Christopher Reid of Excelsior High School. His vice-captain will be Shemar Gordon, also of Excelsior High School who has four representatives on the squad. Carlando Gordon and Javaney Huie are the other representatives from the Mountain-View Avenue-based school.

The remaining team members include Nickoy Stephenson and Gifford Harding of Mona High, Deandra Smalling of Munro College and Traves Gilfillian and Daniel Powell from Denbigh High School. Kevin Hewitt and Adawi Atkin, both of Kingston College are the reserves.

Meanwhile, the girls’ team will be led by Brean Blackwood of Merl Grove High School with Ajhnique Williams of Papine High School being named vice-captain. Blackwood’s schoolmate Tami-Ann Ashmeade was also selected, so too were Courtney Seivwright, Aaliyah James and Seychelle Doyley from Wolmers Girls School.

The remainder of the team is comprised of Imauny Linton of Mona High School, Charlette Rowe of St Hughs High School and Shadae Gilespie of Excelsior High School.

Andrena Williams of Excelsior High School, Shahiem Harrison of Merl Grove High School and Kareeka Nicholls of St Andrew High School for Girls are the reserves.
