Dutch legend Van Nistelroy to tour Jamaica with UCL trophy
The UEFA Champion’s League trophy is expected to be accompanied by Dutch football legend Ruud van C when it arrives in Jamaica later this month, title sponsors Heineken have announced.
The trophy is due to arrive on the island in approximately two weeks’ time as part of the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour. Jamaica is scheduled to be its first stop but it is also expected to tour Panama, Colombia, Egypt, India and Vietnam. While in Jamaica the trophy will be hosted in the cities of Kingston, May Pen, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay.
The UCL trophy will be on the island for four days and arrives on March 20. Van Nistelroy, a Heineken brand ambassador, expressed excitement at the prospect of visiting the island along with the trophy via a recorded message displayed at an official launch for the event held by title sponsors at the Liguanea Club on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old retired player, who made his name at European clubs PSV, Manchester United and Real Madrid he is the fourth-highest goalscorer in UEFA Champions League history with 56 goals. He is also a three-time Champions League top scorer.
