Travis d’Arnaud hit a grand slam for his third home run of the game and drove in six runs to lead the Atlanta Braves to their fifth straight win, 8-3 over the Texas Rangers on Friday.

D’Arnaud, who entered with no homers this season, hit solo shots off Andrew Heaney in the second and fifth innings before connecting for his slam off reliever Jacob Latz in the sixth to put the Braves ahead 7-3.

It was his third career grand slam and second three-homer game.

D’Arnaud grounded out in the eighth with a chance for his fourth home run.

Marcell Ozuna had a run-scoring single in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games, the longest active run in the majors.

Chris Sale allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Astros’ Verlander wins season debut

Justin Verlander pitched six strong innings to win his season debut and the Houston Astros stole five bases in a 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals.

The 41-year-old Verlander, who began the season on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, struck out four and walked none, throwing 50 of 78 pitches for strikes in his 258th win.

He retired the side in order four times and improved to 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA in five regular-season starts against the Nationals.

Jeremy Pena and Mauricio Dubon had three hits apiece for the Astros and Kyle Tucker doubled, singled, walked twice and stole two bases as the Astros snapped a three-game skid.

Phillies’ Turnbull flirts with history

Spencer Turnbull took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Alec Bohm belted a pair of three-run homers to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-0 win over the lowly Chicago White Sox.

Turnbull kept the White Sox hitless until Gavin Sheets singled with one out in the seventh. He struck out six and walked two, pitching seven innings for the first time since his no-hitter for Detroit against Seattle on May 18, 2021.

Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering each pitched an inning to finish up a two-hitter and the Phillies’ fourth straight win.

Bohm matched a career high with six RBIs and had his fourth career two-homer game.

The White Sox fell to a major league-worst 3-16.

Marcell Ozuna's two-run homer capped a five-run 10th inning as the surging Atlanta Braves extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

Austin Riley also drove in two runs in the 10th with a line drive that Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber misplayed and was ruled a double, helping the Braves sweep the rain-shortened two-game series and match their longest winning streak of the season.

Atlanta, which is now 15-2 since June 3, also won eight in a row from April 10-18.

After neither team scored through regulation, Michael Harris put Atlanta on the board with a one-out single that scored automatic runner Sam Hilliard before stealing second and taking third on Ronald Acuna Jr.'s single.

Philadelphia's Junior Marte then struck out Ozzie Albies and appeared to get out of the inning allowing only one run, but Schwarber botched Riley's liner to left as both runners scored for a 3-0 lead. Ozuna followed with his 14th homer of the season to extend the margin.

Braves starter Bryce Elder held the Phillies to three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings, while Philadelphia's Aaron Nola yielded just two hits and two walks in six shutout innings.

Padres roll to end Giants’ streak

Manny Machado and Gary Sanchez belted three-run homers and the San Diego Padres cruised to a 10-0 victory to end the San Francisco Giants’ 10-game winning streak.

Those home runs were more than enough offense for red-hot Blake Snell, who allowed three singles in six innings and struck out 11 to stretch his scoreless streak to 18 innings. He is 3-0 with a 0.29 ERA with 50 strikeouts in his last five starts.

Ha-Seong King also went deep, and the Padres were 5 for 10 with runners in scoring position after they went 4 for 29 in the first three games of the series.

Alex Wood was tagged for six runs and four hits with four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Rays ace McClanahan injured in loss

Tampa Bay Rays ace Shane McClanahan was bidding to become the majors’ first 12-game winner before exiting early with mid-back tightness in a 6-5 loss to the lowly Kansas City Royals.

McClanahan allowed two runs and four hits before he was forced to leave with two outs in the fourth inning after throwing 66 pitches with the game tied at 2.

Maikel Garcia walked to open the ninth inning, stole second and third – giving Kansas City seven steals in the game – and scored on MJ Melendez’s infield single to put the last-place Royals ahead 6-5.

Tampa Bay has lost four of five but is still a major league-best 52-26.

The Atlanta Braves came out best after an action-packed eighth inning to defeat the San Diego Padres 6-5 on Saturday.

Down 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth following a four-run inning from the Padres, the defending World Series champions responded with a four-run inning of their own to split the opening two games of a three-game series.

Marcell Ozuna scored a home run and Austin Riley hit the go-ahead double in the response to hand the Braves the win, in what has been a sputtering start to the season.

Charlie Morton pitched solidly, striking out nine and giving up two hits over 83 pitches in six innings.

Atlanta have now won four of their past six games to move to a 16-18 record for the season.

Robert ruins Yankees win streak

Luis Robert drove home the winning run in the ninth inning to hand the Chicago White Sox a 3-2 win over the American League East-leading New York Yankees.

The Yankees were relentless at the plate over the opening two games of the series, scoring 25 runs but faced difficulty against Dallas Keuchel, who struck out three and gave up only four hits over 86 pitches.

While New York still hold the best record in baseball at 24-9, the loss ends a five-game winning streak.

Marte mashes Mariners

Patrick Mazeika hit the game-winning home run in the seventh inning, but Starling Marte was the star for the New York Mets in their 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Marte tripled, doubled, singled and claimed three RBIs from four at-bats for the Mets, who let a 4-0 lead slip when Jesse Winker tied with a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

Batting ninth, Mazeika had the final say however, mashing Andres Munoz inside the right-field foul pole for his second home run in the major leagues.

Atlanta Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna will be sidelined for at least six weeks after fracturing two fingers, the MLB franchise announced on Wednesday.

Ozuna was hurt during Atlanta's 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

The Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger sustained two fractured fingers – both the middle and right fingers of his left hand.

"Thank God, nothing more serious happened," Ozuna wrote via Instagram midweek. "Now wait six more weeks recovering."

Ozuna injured the fingers as he attempted to advance from second to third base, with his ring finger bending awkwardly as he grounded his slide and crossed over Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers' left foot.

Braves manager Brian Snitker had hoped the slugger may have only dislocated his fingers after the initial X-rays did not reveal a fracture.

"I was hoping they wouldn't have found anything and he'd have been back in a few days after allowing the swelling to go down," Snitker said.

"This is a significant time to be without a big player on your team."

"I guess the good thing is there won't be a surgical process," he added. They just cast him up and it's going to take time."

Entering Wednesday's action, Ozuna had career lows for batting average (.213) and on-base plus slugging (.645).

Ozuna – a two-time All-Star – has only managed seven homers this season, with 21 runs and 40 hits with 26 RBI in 188 at-bats.
