Jamaica College (JC) are ISSA Digicel Manning Cup Champions for a 30th time after besting favourites St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) via penalties at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday.

JC, who endured their first titleless season in five years in 2018, returned to the top of the urban area pile on Friday after more than just holding STATHS to a 0-0 draw for 90 minutes, then stepping up to the spot to stay perfect from penalties to claim a 5-4 win.

JC had lost on penalties to Kingston College in the ISSA Champions Cup semi-finals but returned to beat the same opponents in the Manning Cup semifinals with five perfect penalties before doing the same in the final.

STATHS have been brilliant this season and topped a Manning Cup semi-final group including JC and St George’s College, winning all three games in impressive fashion, earning the favourites tag in no uncertain terms.

However, JC would end STATHS’ perfect season with their sixth title in seven years and do it in style.

The truth is, JC looked like the team more likely to score throughout the encounter as their backline blunted the normally incisive STATHS attack.

However, Phillon Lawrence, JC’s leading goalscorer, would muff a number of chances for his side to go ahead, including a one-on-one with the goalkeeper where he elected to go through his legs.

The JC ‘keeper brought his legs closer together just in the knick of time to effect a save as early as the fourth minute of play.

That trend would continue throughout but just as STATHS found today difficult for goalscoring, so did JC.

Kingston College defeated a Clarendon College team 1-0 in the final of the ISSA Champions Cup that have been considered unbeatable on Saturday inside the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica thanks to a wonder strike from Renaldo Robinson.

St. Andrew Technical High defeated Jamaica College 2-1 at the Stadium East in Kingston on Wednesday to advance to the semi-final round of the 2019 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition.
