Argentina's Sebastian Baez tasted success in his home country on Sunday as he defeated Federico Coria 6-1 3-6 6-3 in the Cordoba Open final.

In the fourth ATP Tour final of his career, Baez secured his second title, showing a slight edge both in his service game and with his returns.

He rattled through the first set in just 31 minutes, winning 17 of his 20 total service points (85 per cent), while Coria could only convert at a 48 per cent rate (11 of 23).

Coria tightened things up in the second set and turned the tide, winning 81 per cent of points on his serve while Baez plummeted to 61 per cent, not allowing a single break point opportunity.

Each player created two break point chances in the deciding set, and while Coria failed to convert either, Baez got the job done at the first attempt, jumping out to an early lead and serving it out the rest of the way.

Coria shot himself in the foot with five of the six total double faults, while Baez served the only ace of the match.

The 22-year-old Baez, who entered the contest ranked 47th in the world, will now climb into the top 40 as he edges closer to his career-best ranking of 31st.

Marcos Giron survived a scare against qualifier Alex Rybakov in the opening round of the Dallas Open on Tuesday, escaping with a 6-4 6-7 (1-7) 6-1 victory.

One of the top seeds in action, Giron is ranked over 300 spots higher than Rybakov, but the underdog put up a serious fight and held up well in all key indicators.

Rybakov had 29 winners with only 17 unforced errors, and he had just two double faults to go with seven aces, but Giron was better in both categories. His talent shone through with 34 winners and 16 unforced errors, while he also had 10 aces and no double faults.

Also in Dallas, French eighth seed Adrian Mannarino secured a 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 win against Steve Johnson, and he will now face Australia's Jordan Thompson following his 6-1 7-5 triumph over Denis Kudla.

Meanwhile, at the Cordoba Open, Argentina's Federico Coria was the top seed to advance after defeating Brazil's Thiago Monteiro 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 6-2.

There was less success for hometown seventh seed Pedro Martinez, who was eliminated 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-0 by Chile's Cristian Garin, while Federico Delbonis beat Alejandro Tabilo 6-7 (8-10) 6-2 7-6 (8-6) to earn a shot at second seed Francisco Cerundolo.

Former world number 17 Cristian Garin was beaten 6-4 7-5 by Federico Coria in the first round of the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel, while Matteo Berrettini and defending champion Casper Ruud withdrew from the tournament.

2017 runner-up Joao Sousa cruised past Vit Kopriva 6-1 7-5 and Jurij Rodionov set up a Round of 16 meeting with third seed Roberto Bautista Agut with a straight-sets victory over Hernan Casanova.

Dominic Thiem, who won the 2019 edition of the competition, will face Alexander Shevchenko tomorrow while Richard Gasquet will take on Sebastian Ofner.

2016 Croatia Open winner Fabio Fognini will not be regaining his title in Umag this year, after the seventh seed was knocked out by Colombian Daniel Galan in a 3-6 7-5 3-6 defeat.

Galan will play Giulio Zeppieri in the next round, who came from one set down to overcome world number 90 Pedro Cachin 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Fifth seed Alex Molcan plays his first game tomorrow against Duje Adjukovic, and sixth seed Daniel Altmaier will take on French 23-year-old Corentin Moutet.

Casper Ruud won his third ATP Tour title on Sunday thanks to a straightforward win over Federico Coria in the Nordea Open final.

The Norwegian needed just under 90 minutes to see off Coria, who was competing in his maiden tour-level final, getting the job done to win 6-3 6-3.

Ruud's electric start set the tone for the contest, as he raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to successive breaks – although Coria broke back to make it 4-1, his opponent's wobble was only brief.

Coria ensured the match was a little tighter initially in the second set, but Ruud's class showed as he rattled off three breaks on the trot and eventually converted his fifth match point in front of a joyous support.

"It was an incredible week, maybe the best week of my life," Ruud said after sealing the title without losing a single set.

"It's an incredible feeling playing here in Bastad with the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish support. There is nothing like that home crowd feeling.

"To win here means a lot. You get a little extra nervous as the No. 1 seed. Me and my father [former player Christian Ruud] have been joking about when I am going to beat him at this and this, and now I think I have beaten him in everything!

"The Ruud family can finally bring the trophy home to Norway. It is a special feeling having him here with me."
