JFF and Reggae Boyz finally settle wage dispute

By April 09, 2021

After being at loggerheads over wages for the past few weeks, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Reggae Boyz have reached a contractual agreement that now allows the focus to return to the coming CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers and the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The parties released a statement overnight confirming that a resolution has been reached following contentious negotiations.

“The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Senior Men’s National team are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached in respect of the contract terms,” the parties said in a statement overnight.

“The agreed terms relate to remuneration as well as player welfare which will serve to establish a strong basis for a harmonious relationship between both parties. Moreover, the period of negotiations provided a forum for the ventilation and resolution of some long-standing issues and more recent ones such as player welfare in a pandemic environment.

“The agreement signals the level of effort and commitment by everyone involved to re-align football administration and standards in keeping with the emerging international benchmarks.”

JFF President Michael Ricketts expressed relief that the issue is now behind them.

“I am delighted with the agreement. Now everyone can concentrate on the most important element; Jamaica’s football,” he said.

“I want to commend the players and members of the JFF for a job well done.  I look forward to every single individual working passionately to improve themselves and the team as we try to qualify for Qatar 2022.”

Sportsmax.TV sources indicate that the agreement expires in the latter part of 2023 and covers the next two Gold Cups, the Nations League, World Cup and international friendlies.

Juventus defender Gianluca Frabotta has joined Verona on a season-long loan deal.

The Italy under-21 international will spend the 2021-22 campaign with the Gialloblu, who finished 10th in Serie A last term.

Verona have reportedly seen off competition from Atalanta and Genoa to land Frabotta's signature.

The 22-year-old will link up with Eusebio Di Francesco, who replaced Ivan Juric at Stadio Bentegodi in June.

The former Roma boss guided the Giallorossi to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018, when they lost a thrilling tie 7-6 on aggregate against Liverpool.

  • Chelsea midfielder Gallagher makes Palace loan move Chelsea midfielder Gallagher makes Palace loan move

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has joined London rivals Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.

Gallagher will spend a second season on loan in the Premier League, having made 32 appearances for West Brom last term.

The 21-year-old, who is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues, will link-up with former Chelsea team-mate Marc Guehi, who made a permanent move to Selhurst Park earlier in July, in a new era for the Eagles under Patrick Vieira.

Gallagher said: "I'm buzzing to be here. I can't wait to get started, I'm happy to get the deal over the line.

"I spoke to the manager, I liked what he said, I liked how he wants to play, how he wants me to play and how he wants the team to play. I feel like I can learn from him and the players around me."

Gallagher, an England Under-21 international, has also spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City and becomes Palace's fifth new signing.

Palace chairman Steve Parish, who has already brought in Guehi, Michael Olise, Remi Matthews and Joachim Andersen, expressed his excitement over Gallagher's arrival.

"I am delighted Conor has chosen to come to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan after some impressive performances in the Premier League last season," Parish said.
