Rumour Has It: Juventus to offer three players in move for Pogba

By Sports Desk July 19, 2019

Maybe Juventus are not ready to give up on signing Manchester United star Paul Pogba just yet.

Pogba, 26, has been linked with a return to Turin and a move to Real Madrid as he looks for an Old Trafford exit.

But, just as it looked like Juve were struggling and Madrid was the midfielder's most likely destination, that may have changed.

TOP STORY – JUVE TO OFFER THREE PLAYERS IN MOVE FOR POGBA

Juventus could offer a fee plus three players in their move for Manchester United star Pogba, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Full-back Joao Cancelo, attacker Douglas Costa and midfielder Blaise Matuidi are the players mentioned for potential moves in the report.

Meanwhile, ESPN FC report Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has told coach Zinedine Zidane that it will be very difficult to sign Pogba this close season.

ROUND-UP

- Barcelona are still trying to find a way to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou from Paris Saint-Germain. According to Sky Germany, Barca are offering €100million plus two players, having given PSG a list of six that includes Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic, Nelson Semedo and Malcom. That is up from the earlier offer of €40m plus two players. According to Sport, Barca have made Coutinho and Rakitic priorities to be sold.

- After being linked to Bayern Munich, Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to re-sign with Chelsea. The Daily Mail report the 18-year-old England international will sign a five-year deal worth more than £100,000 per week to stay at Stamford Bridge.

- Giovani Lo Celso apparently wants to join Tottenham, but Spurs are unwilling to meet Real Betis' £60m (€66.8m) asking price, according to The Sun, who say Erik Lamela could be added into a deal. Danny Rose could also reportedly leave Spurs and Sky Sports say PSG are interested in the left-back.

- Arsenal have beaten their north London rivals to the signing of Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, according to ESPN FC. Arsenal will complete the signing of Saliba for £26.9m (€30m) and loan him back to the Ligue 1 club despite late interest from Spurs, the report says.

- Another reported Arsenal target, Wilfried Zaha, has told Crystal Palace he wants to leave, according to The Sun. Arsenal have reportedly had a £40m bid for the attacker rejected.

- Bayern Munich are ready to meet Celta Vigo midfielder Brais Mendez's €25m release clause, according to Kicker. Mendez, 22, was handed a Spain debut late last year and scored six goals while providing seven assists for Celta in LaLiga in 2018-19.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is wary of "goal machine" Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of facing Arsenal on Saturday.

Klopp and Aubameyang spent two seasons together at Borussia Dortmund, the coach heading to Anfield in 2015 and the forward joining Arsenal in January 2018.

Aubameyang has impressed during his time in the Premier League, scoring 43 goals in 67 games in all competitions for Arsenal.

Klopp knows what his former forward is capable of, talking up Aubameyang ahead of the top-of-the-table clash between the clubs at Anfield.

"Auba has actually no real weaknesses apart from his fashion style. I'm really glad it has worked out well for him, because I really like him," he told UK newspapers.

"I didn't think abut the Premier League when I signed him for Dortmund. He played as a winger at Saint-Etienne at that time, we needed a number nine because [Robert] Lewandowski left us. We thought long about it, then he came in and played on the wing and we played with [Ciro] Immobile as well.

"Later on we realised he is a really good central striker, a number nine, as well. It was not immediate like this, he developed incredibly and became a goal machine."

Klopp, whose team and Arsenal were the only sides to win their opening two Premier League games, praised Aubameyang's progress as a player.

"I have to say his finishing is incredible. Combine that with the speed and it is really interesting," he said.

"He plays now on the wing in a 4-2-3-1 which means he has to defend too and he is ready for that. He is a really good player."

  • Pogba can't be Keane, Veron, Scholes, Giggs and Cantona – Solskjaer Pogba can't be Keane, Veron, Scholes, Giggs and Cantona – Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down expectations around Paul Pogba, saying the midfielder could not be Roy Keane, Juan Sebastian Veron, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona in one player.

Pogba remains at Old Trafford despite being linked with a move away throughout the close season, but the 26-year-old was criticised after missing a penalty during a draw at Wolves on Monday.

Solskjaer has praised the France midfielder's all-round abilities, but warned United could be asking for too much from Pogba.

"We can all see Paul was disappointed when he missed a penalty. He doesn't deserve this," he told reporters on Friday.

"He is, as I've said so many times, and he's said it himself, when you sign for Man United, you become a Manc and, once a Manc is always a Manc, and he gives his absolute everything for the club every week.

"He expects a lot from himself as well, so it doesn't frustrate me. We expect a lot from him, but we know we can't get Roy Keane, Veron, Scholes, Giggs, Cantona in one player. It's hard, but he's a top, top player.

"I know people expect him to do absolutely everything on a football pitch, but he's got so many qualities that we're seeing different qualities from Paul this year, compared to last season, and he's a leader in the group. So, I expect the fans to be behind him, yes."

Pogba was criticised for taking the penalty against Wolves just a week after Marcus Rashford had converted a spot-kick in a resounding victory over Chelsea.

But Solskjaer, whose side host Crystal Palace on Saturday, confirmed that duo were still on penalty duties for United.

"I'm sure you're going to see Paul Pogba score a pen for United again," he said.

"We're practising pens still and Marcus and Paul are still on them."

  • Waterhouse battle with defending SCL champs ends in stalemate Waterhouse battle with defending SCL champs ends in stalemate

Reigning Scotiabank Concacaf League champion CS Herediano of Costa Rica grabbed a slim edge in its 2019 SCL Round of 16 series with a key away goal against Jamaica’s Waterhouse in a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Waterhouse went right to work on the reigning champion and Andre Fletcher took advantage of space in the Herediano penalty area to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead in the 2’.

Two minutes later, Herediano’s Bryan Rubio almost answered Fletcher’s early score with the equalizer, but saw his shot hit the post. The Ticos would draw even though in the 17’, as Keyner Brown spun a header over the arms of Waterhouse GK Akeen Chambers to make it 1-1.

Herediano started to increase the pressure on the Waterhouse defense in the second half and had two very good looks at goal, only to see Keysher Fuller fire just over the crossbar, followed by a Freddy Alvarez strike that forced Chambers into a big save.

In the end, the two sides would have to settle for the draw, leaving the tie up for grabs going into next week’s second leg.
