Defending champions Kingston College, 22-time champions St. George’s College and defending Walker Cup champions St. Catherine High all scored wins on a goal-filled Friday in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup.

Friday’s action saw 32 goals being scored in just four matches with the highest scoring game being St. Catherine’s 10-0 win over St. Mary’s College at the Owen Palmer Oval.

St. Catherine now have 16 points from six outings and are level on points with leaders Jamaica College in Group B, trailing them by 10 on goal difference.

Kingston College secured a 9-0 victory over Ardenne at Stadium East for their sixth win in as many games to remain three points clear of their North Street neighbours St. George’s College in second.

St. George’s got their own 9-0 victory over Meadowbrook at Winchester Park to move to 15 points while Calabar and Waterford played out a 2-2 draw at Calabar in the other group game. Waterford are third with 11 points while Calabar are fourth with eight.

Jamaica and West Indies opener John Campbell has been banned for four years by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCo) after failing to provide a blood sample to doping control officers in April 2022.

In an 18-page ruling, Campbell who was charged with evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection, a three-member independent panel, found that the player was intentional in his actions.

"The panel is persuaded to a comfortable degree of satisfaction that the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, namely a breach of JADCO rule 2.3. The panel does not find, on the evidence presented, that the athlete's anti-doping violation was not intentional.

"In the circumstances of this case, the athlete is ineligible for a period of four years."

The ban takes effect retroactively in May 2022.

The 29-year-old left-hand batsman has played 20 Tests for the West Indies since he debuted in January 2019 against England.

In those Tests, he scored 888 runs at an average of 26.11 and included three half-centuries. His last Test was against Bangladesh in June 2022.

St. Thomas Technical hammered Robert Lightbourne 12-1 at Robert Lightbourne in Zone L action in the ISSA/Digicel DaCosta Cup on Thursday.

The win moves St. Thomas Tech up to 11 points from eight games, good enough for fourth in the zone. Yallahs are three points ahead of them in third after a goalless draw with Morant Bay at Morant Bay. Seaforth now have 15 points to trail leaders Paul Bogle by three after beating them 1-0 at home. Paul Bogle have now lost two in a row after winning their first six games.

Mile Gully secured a 1-0 home win over Christiana to move past them into second in Zone G. Alphansus Davis High comfortably beat Alston 4-1 at Kirkvine in the other zone game on Thursday. Mile Gully now has nine points from five games, trailing leaders Holmwood by four and leading Christiana by two.

York Castle beat Marcus Garvey 4-0 at the Mount Pleasant Academy in the lone Zone I game on the day to move to 16 points from their six outings, six points clear of Oracabessa in second and nine clead of Browns Town in third.

Mona High recorded a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Camperdown High at Excelsior on Thursday to remain undefeated in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup.

Mona took the lead through Kshaine Gordon in the 22^nd minute before Camperdown would reply only a minute later through a header from striker Devante McCrea.

Mona re-took the lead in the 31^st minute though Zhaine Pinnock after some questionable goalkeeping by Camperdown’s Howain Jones. It was all square again after the 34^th minute when McCrea got his second of the game after slotting the ball into an empty net.

In the 47^th minute, Camperdown found themselves ahead for the first time through a left-footed strike from Shelton Ricketts. Pinnock got his second of the game in the 75^th minute to make it 3-3 before centre-back Donhue Mitchell came up with Mona’s winner in the 88^th minute.

With their seventh win in as many games, Mona leads Group E comfortably with 21 points. Wolmer’s Boys rebounded from back-to-back losses to Mona and Camperdown with a 5-1 win over Papine High at home to remain second on 15 points while Hydel trail them by two points in third after a 2-1 win over Kingston High at Breezy Castle.

Jamaica College got their fourth win in a row to remain at the top of Group B. The 30-time champions went to Cedar Grove and got a convincing 4-0 win to move to 16 points from six games. St. Catherine are second with 13 points from five outings and will look to go level on points with JC when they oppose St. Mary’s College at the Owen Palmer Oval on Friday. St. Jago are four points behind St. Catherine in third after a 5-2 win over Holy Trinity at Excelsior.

In the lone Group D encounter, Jonathan Grant beat Spanish Town 1-0 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval to move to 16 points, one behind leaders STATHS.

The top two teams in Group F, Excelsior and Campion College, played out a 0-0 draw at the latter. Excelsior now has 17 points after seven games while Campion has 14. Jose Marti is third with 11 after a 2-0 home win over Clan Carthy.

2003 champions Frome Technical went to Merlene Ottey and won 8-0 to remain unbeaten atop Zone B of the ISSA/Digicel DaCosta Cup on Wednesday.

Frome, who also beat Green Island 5-1 on Monday, lead the zone with 15 points from their five games and have scored 32 goals while conceding only one. 11-time champions Rusea’s also have 15 points but have played one more match than Frome. They secured a 3-0 home win against Hopewell.

Zone A leaders Irwin High got their third consecutive draw, 1-1 with Maldon at home to move to 15 points from their seven outings, five points more than Green Pond in second. 12-time champions Cornwall College got a vital 2-1 win over Green Pond at Green Pond on Tuesday to close the gap between the two to just one point. Wednesday’s other zone clash saw St. James High record a 3-2 victory over Anchovy at Jarrett Park.

William Knibb now has four wins from four games to lead Zone C after a 3-0 win over Spot Valley at Spot Valley. Wednesday’s other zone game saw Herbert Morrison secure a 1-0 home win over Muschett. Cedric Titus is second in the zone and also have four wins out of four after a 5-0 win over Muschett on Monday.

Lacovia beat Munro College 1-0 at home in Zone E. Lacovia now have nine points from eight games for fourth in the zone while Munro are still second with 11 points but are now ten adrift of leaders STETHS who won their seventh match out of seven, 2-0 over Maggotty at Maggotty on Tuesday. B.B Coke also beat Sydney Pagon 3-1 at home on Tuesday and are now a single point behind Munro in third.

Belair High took over the lead in Zone F thanks to a 1-0 home win over Manchester to move to 15 points from six games, two points ahead of their opponents in second. DeCarteret College are now just one point behind Manchester in third after a 2-0 win over Bellefield at Bellefield while Mt. St. Joseph beat May Day 3-0 at home in the other zone game.

Clarendon College beat Kellits 5-1 at home for their fifth win in as many games to stretch their lead in Zone H. Edwin Allen and Lennon High played out a 0-0 draw at Lennon and are currently second and third in the zone on eight and seven points, respectively.

Vere Technical hammered Winston Jones 10-0 to move to the top of Zone N with 10 points after four games. Defending champions Garvey Maceo also have 10 points thanks to a 4-1 away win against Kemps Hill. They also beat Foga Road 3-1 at home on Monday.

In Zone O, Happy Grove hammered Fair Prospect 6-0 at Hector’s River to move to lead with eight points from four games. Titchfield also have eight points from four thanks to a 1-1 draw with Port Antonio at Carder Park.

In Zone J, Tacky moved to 15 points from seven games after a 1-1 draw with St. Mary Tech at Richmond Farm, maintaining a five-point lead over St. Mary High who beat Horace Clarke 1-0 at Horace Clarke on Tuesday. Wednesday’s other zone game saw Wycliffe Martin lose 2-3 at home to Annotto Bay High.

Central High moved to the top of Zone M with a 5-0 win over Tacius Golding at the Port Esquivel Sports Club. They now have 12 points from five games, three more than Glenmuir who have also played two less games. Glenmuir beat Old Harbour 2-0 at home on Monday.

In more Tuesday results, Manning’s dropped their first points of the season with a 0-0 draw at Godfrey Stewart in Zone D. With 19 points from seven games, they now lead Petersfield, who drew 1-1 with Black River at Black River, by seven points. Godfrey Stewart sits third with nine points while Belmont Academy are now a point behind them in fourth after a 1-0 win over Grange Hill at the Llandilo Sports Complex.

Holmwood secured a 2-1 win over Alphansus Davis High at Brooks Park to maintain their lead in Zone G. They now have 13 points from five games, six points more than Christiana High who beat Alston 5-0 at Kirkvine. Christiana have played two games less than Holmwood.

York Castle took over the lead in Zone I thanks to a 2-0 win over Browns Town at the Mount Pleasant Academy. They now have 13 points in five games to lead Oracabessa, who played out a 1-1 draw with Ocho Rios at Drax Hall, by three points.

Dinthill Technical got their eighth win in as many games to maintain top spot in Zone K. They secured a 5-1 win over Enid Bennett at the Bybrook Sports Club to move to 24 points. McGrath High remain second on 18 points from eight games after a 1-0 win over Charlemont, who are third with 15 points. Ewarton beat Guys Hill 1-0 at the Ewarton Sports Complex in the other zone game on Tuesday.

Defending champions Kingston College maintained their spot atop Group A of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup with a comfortable 7-0 win over Meadowbrook High at the Constant Spring Field on Tuesday.

KC now leads the group with a perfect 15 points from five games, three points more than their North Street neighbours St. George’s College who avenged their shock loss to Waterford earlier in the season with a 3-0 win at Winchester Park. The other group game saw Calabar beat Ardenne 2-0 at Ardenne.

Charlie Smith leads Group C by three points after a 3-0 win over Bridgeport at Dunbeholden. After three wins in a row, Charlie Smith now has 17 points from seven outings. Haile Selassie remain second with 14 points after a 2-2 draw with Vauxhall at Vauxhall while Tivoli have 10 points in third after a 4-2 home win over Edith Dalton James.

STATHS now have a four-point lead in Group D thanks to a 5-0 win over Dunoon Technical at Excelsior. They now have 17 points from seven games, four more then Jonathan Grant, who beat Spanish Town 4-1 at home, in second. Norman Manley is third with 10 points after a 4-1 win over Tarrant at Tarrant.

Excelsior got their fifth win in a row, 1-0 away at Cumberland, to move to 16 points from six games and lead Group F. Campion College trail them by four points in second after a 0-0 draw with Jose Marti at Jose Marti. There were also no goals between Kingston Technical and Clan Carthy at Kingston Technical in the day’s other group game.

Jamaica began its defence of the Caribbean Golf Association's (CGA) Four-Ball Championship by ending Tuesday’s opening day atop the leaderboard in three of the five team categories.

The three-day, the five-country championship is being played in Florida at the Golden Palm Golf Course with  Jamaica is gunning for its third consecutive win after copping the country trophy, the Ambrose Gouthro Cup in 2019 and 2021.

 There was no championship in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The team of Jodi Munn-Barrow and Lisa Gardner who are defending the Maria Nunes Trophy led the Ladies 35 and Over category with a seven over-par 78. They are three shots ahead of Puerto Rico’s team of Mara Pagan and Rebekah Alford who 81.

Meanwhile, Maggie Lyn and Michelle McCreath have it all to play for as the only team vying for the Desire Henry Trophy.  They posted a first-round score of 84 in the category for Ladies 50 and over.

On the men's side, the team of Philip Prendergast and Owen Samuda led their group in defence of the Ramon Baez Romano Trophy (for men 35 and over).  They carded 73 in the opening round and were trailed by Lynford Miller and Ashley Glinton of the Bahamas who shot 75.

The Higgs & Higgs Cup for Men 60 and over, saw Joe Delfillipo and Roger Hanson of the Cayman Islands, and Fernando Diaz and Arturo Morales of Puerto Rico tied up for the lead.

Wayne Chai Chong and Rory Jardine are tied for second along with three other teams after posting four over par 75 for the round.

Robert Chin and Dorrel Allen were one stroke back on five over par 75 in seventh place.

 The third local team in the category, Peter Chin and George Hugh, were nine over for a score of 80 and ninth place.

In the play for the Francis Steel Perkins Trophy, two of the three Jamaican teams are in joint fifth place.  Dr Mark Newnhan and Michael Gliechman, and Metry Seaga and Dave Cameron both posted six over par 77 at the end of round one.

The other team of William 'Tommy' Lee and Carlyle Hudson were just one stroke back in seventh place after scoring seven over par 78.

Bahamian pair Peter McIntosh and Horace Miller posted 72 to lead the group at the end of day one.

"(The) course was long, especially for the ladies,” Jonathan Newnham said afterwards.

“Overall, we had a few tough holes that we compounded with errors but (we are) proud of the fight throughout.  (We) kept ourselves in it with each category with two days to go."

During a dramatic weekend of racing, Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell overcame a significant challenge on Saturday to finish third on Sunday in the Group E final at the Nitro Rallycross Minneapolis.

2021 finalists Manning’s got their sixth win in as many games in the 2022 ISSA/Digicel DaCosta Cup with a 5-1 win over Black River at Black River.

With 18 points, Manning’s now have a sizeable seven-point Zone D lead over Petersfield, who drew 0-0 at home with Grange Hill, their second consecutive draw. The other Zone D game also featured no goals between Belmont Academy and Godfrey Stewart at the Crawford Sports Complex.

STETHS also now have six wins from six games thanks to a 1-0 win over B.B Coke in the second game of a home double-header. The first game of that double-header saw Maggotty and Lacovia play out a 1-1 draw. Munro College remain second but are now eight points adrift of STETHS after a shock 1-2 loss to Sydney Pagon at home.

Dinthill Technical now have seven wins in as many games after a 4-1 win over Charlemont at Charlemont in Zone K. Charlemont now have 15 points and sit third in the zone behind their opponents and McGrath High, who also have 15 points but a better goal difference after a 2-0 home win over Ewarton. The zone’s other game saw Enid Bennett beat Guys Hill 1-0 at the Bybrook Sports Club.

Belair secured a 1-0 home win over Bellefield to move to second in Zone F on nine points, one behind leaders Manchester High. DeCarteret College are third on eight points after a comprehensive 5-0 home win over May Day.

Clarendon College leads Zone H with nine points from three games after a 2-1 win over Edwin Allen High at Foga Road. The other Zone H game saw Thompson Town get their first win of the season, 1-0 over Kellits at home to move to third behind Clarendon College and Edwin Allen.

In Zone N, Winston Jones suffered a 1-5 defeat at the hands of Foga Road at the Sunset Playfield.

Old Harbour beat Tacius Golding 7-0 at the Port Esquivel Sports Club for their third win in four games in Zone M, the same record as Central High who beat Denbigh 1-0 at Effortville.

In Zone A, Irwin dropped their first points of the season after playing out a 1-1 draw with St. James High at home. On Friday, Green Pond beat Anchovy 3-1 at home to move to 10 points from five games, thee behind leaders Irwin. The other Friday game saw Maldon hand 12-time champions Cornwall College their second straight loss and third in five games with a 2-1 win to move to third on seven points, one ahead of their opponents.

Tacky High got their third straight win to take command of Zone J. They beat Wycliffe Martin High 3-1 at home to move to 14 points from six games, eight points ahead of Horace Clarke in second. St. Mary High and St. Mary Tech played out a 0-0 draw at the Highgate Community Centre in the day’s other game.

In Zone L, Paul Bogle suffered their first loss of the season in seven games, a 1-3 home defeat at the hands of St. Thomas Technical. Paul Bogle still leads the zone with 18 points, four more than Yallahs who beat Robert Lightbourne 3-0 at Robert Lightbourne. Seaforth secured a 2-1 home win over Morant Bay in the other game.

In Zone G, Mile Gully got a 1-0 home win over Alphansus Davis High. On Friday, leaders Holmwood moved to 10 points from four games with a 3-0 win over Alston at Kirkvine.

In other Friday results, Rusea’s moved to the top of Zone B with 12 points from five games after a 5-0 away win over Merlene Ottey while Green Island beat Hopewell 4-1 to move to third. Frome Technical are second with nine points but have played two less games than Rusea’s.

Spot Valley and Herbert Morrison played out a 1-1 draw at Spot Valley in Zone C.

KC now leads Group A with 12 points after four games, two points ahead of Waterford who hammered Meadowbrook 5-0 at home. KC’s North Street neighbors and 22-time Manning Cup winners St. George’s College are third on nine points after a 3-0 win at Ardenne.

30-time champions Jamaica College got their third straight win and fourth in five games with a 10-0 demolition of St. Mary’s College at St. Mary’s College. JC now leads Group B with 13 points, the same amount as St. Catherine High who beat Holy Trinity 3-0 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Friday. Cedar Grove scored an upset 2-1 home win over St. Jago in the group’s other Saturday game.

Charlie Smith beat Haile Selassie 2-1 in a Group C top of the table clash at the Tony Spalding Sports Complex to move to 14 points from five games, one ahead of their opponents. The group’s other games saw Bridgeport and Edith Dalton play out a 1-1 draw at Dunbeholden and Vauxhall lose 1-2 to Tivoli at home.

STATHS moved to 14 points to remain at the top of Group D after a 2-2 draw with Norman Manley at home. Jonathan Grant is still second after a 3-1 win over Dunoon at Excelsior while Spanish Town beat Tarrant 2-1 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval in the other game.

Mona High continued their red-hot form in Group E with a 6-0 win over Kingston High at Breezy Castle, their sixth win in as many games. Mona are now six points ahead of their closest challengers, Wolmer’s, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Camperdown on Friday at the Alpha Institute, their second straight loss after winning their first four games. Hydel beat Papine 3-0 at Royal Lakes to move to 10 points from their six encounters.

Group F play saw Excelsior go to Kingston Technical and scrape a 2-1 win to move to 13 points from five games, maintaining a two-point lead over Campion College who beat Clan Carthy 1-0 at home. Jose Marti is third on seven points after a 5-1 win over Cumberland at home.

World championships and Commonwealth Games finalist Natoya Goule has implored Jamaicans to do a better job of protecting the environment and steer away from littering.

West Indies bowling legend and Jamaica Tallawahs coach Curtley Ambrose admits to taking special pride and pleasure in lifting the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) crown on Friday because of the team's status as underdogs.

The Jamaica-based franchise lifted the third title in its history and first in six years following a dominant 8-wicket win over the more heavily favoured Barbados Royals.  Heading into the final, the Royals were the league’s hottest team having lost just two of 10 games.

The Tallawahs on the other hand, who are conditioned by Ambrose and another Windies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, in the meantime, finished in the final qualifying spot.  At one point during the season, the Tallawahs lost 5 of 7 games.

“This means a lot as a group we came into the tournament as underdogs.  Not many gave us a chance to come out of the first round, let alone win it,” Ambrose said, following the team’s triumph.

“I haven’t sprinted for years and I found myself sprinting onto the field.  It was a wonderful performance thought and we were deserving winners,” he added.

“The thing about the Tallawahs is that we didn’t really on just one or two players.  At any given time, any player can step up.  We have depth in our batting, we have good bowling.  We stuck together as a family and we believed from day 1 that we could have won this championship and we did.”

Correction: The original story claimed that the Jamaica Tallawahs won its fourth CPL title on Friday, September 30 and it's first in four years. That was incorrect. The Tallawahs had previously won two titles (2013 and 2016). So the 2022 title was its first in six years. Sportsmax.TV apologises for the error.

Concacaf has conducted the official draw for the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Championship (CU17C).

The World Cup qualifying competition will take place February 11 - 26, 2023, in Guatemala, and will include the participation of 20 Concacaf Member Associations.

During Thursday’s draw, hosted at the Confederations Headquarters, in Miami, FL, the 16 nations participating in the 2023 CU17C group stage (all ranked 16 or better in the Concacaf Men’s U-17 Ranking) were divided into four groups of four teams each.

 The groups are as follows:

 Group E: Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Curacao

Group F: USA, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados

Group G: Costa Rica, Jamaica, Cuba, Guadeloupe

Group H: Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador, Suriname

 After group stage play, the top three nations in each group will advance to the knockout stage, joining the four 2022 Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers (CU17Q) group winners; Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico.

 The four-round knockout stage (round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final) will be played in a single-match elimination format and the four semifinalists will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023.

 Matches will be divided across two venues, the Estadio Nacional Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City and the Estadio Pensativo in Antigua.

 The competition’s match schedule will be announced at a later date

Jamaica Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Andre Blake admits to enjoying the encounter against top team Argentina and football great Lionel Messi, despite coming away on the other side of a 3-0 defeat.

After starting the game on the bench, Messi's introduction blew things wide open for La Albiceleste who had already taken a 1-0 lead in the first half courtesy of Julian Alvarez’s 13th-minute strike.

With only 10-minutes to go the Jamaicans seemed set to end their third straight encounter against the South Americans within a one-goal margin, but Messi had other ideas.

Blake initially foiled Messi twice but could not do much against the Paris Saint Germain midfielder’s blast from the top of the area in the 86^th minute or his crafty free-kick three minutes later.

It’s a world-class team that’s the easiest way to put it.  It’s a different ballgame. The quality of play and the speed of play, everything is a different level. But I enjoyed every moment of it, and it was a great experience,” Blake told the Philadelphia Enquirer.

“He’s the best in the world,” Blake said in his assessment of Messi.

“I wish I was able to make those saves, but world-class players do world-class things. … it was definitely an honour and a moment I’ll cherish forever — not the moment that he scored, but being able to play against him and save a few of his shots.”
