Presentation extend lead, San Juan leapfrog Naparima after second stumble

By October 13, 2018

Defending Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premiership division champions, Presentation College, extended their lead atop the tables after a  2-1 win away at St Augustine on Saturday.

The victory took Presentation to 25 points, while last week’s second-place team, Naparima College stumbled yet again with a 1-1 draw against St Anthony’s College.

The draw meant Naparima are now on 21 points but fell a place to the charging San Juan North Secondary, who are now second after a 1-0 win over St Mary’s College.

In the day’s television game on SportsMax, a pair of penalties left Queen’s Royal College (QRC) and Trinity College east locked on a goal apiece, while Fatima College found the winning formula at St Benedict’s College, pulling out a 1-0 victory.

QRC opened the scoring in the 27th minute when John-Paul Rochford dispatched a duly awarded penalty. In the second half, Kerdell Sween returned the favour for Trinity College East, dispatching his penalty brilliantly to leave the two sharing the points.

The promoted teams have continued to struggle this season, both losing on Saturday.

Bishop’s High lost 2-1 at Carapichaima East, while Valencia Secondary were outdone 2-0 at home at the hands of East Mucurapo Secondary.
