West Indies skipper Jason Holder is anxious to do well at the ICC Cricket World Cup at the end of this month, but he is also looking back to previous One Day Internationals for what you could term, inspiration.

During qualifiers for the World Cup, the West Indies had to go through Afghanistan, who beat them in the final.

Although the two had already qualified as finalists, the loss hurt the West Indies captain and he wants revenge.

"I'm looking forward to playing Afghanistan, mainly because they beat us in the final of the World Cup qualifiers," said Holder in an interview with ESPN.

Afghanistan have been one of the West Indies’ bogey teams, if you will, and Holder, well aware of that, wants to get the proverbial monkey off his side’s back.

"I think in head-to-head contests they have probably edged us out, so I really want to get at them. They are a great team - a team in transition, and they've done wonderful things, but I really want to make amends for what happened in the Qualifiers," said Holder.

The West Indies have only beaten Afghanistan once from the four occasions the teams have played each other, with Afghanistan winning the other three, twice in the qualifiers.

In the 2019 World Cup, every team plays each other before the knockout stages, with Afghanistan and the West Indies slated for a July 4 meeting at Headingley.
