Half-centuries from openers Trevon Griffith and Sherfane Rutherford led Guyana to a comfortable 93-run win over Windward Islands, in Group A of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Cup in Tarouba on Thursday.

Sent in to bat, the opening pair put on 121 for the first wicket before Rutherford (64) was caught by Kirk Edwards off the bowling of Larry Edwards.  Griffith (69) was next to depart, after being caught by Delorn Johnson off the bowling of Shane Shillingford to lead Guyana to 159 for 2.

After a strong start at the top the innings, however, with only Christopher Barnwell (29) and Raymond Reifer (28) adding any more significant scoring to the innings.  Larry Edwards was the pick of the bowlers for the Windwards after ending with 4 for 34.

In response, the Windwards lost experienced opener Devon Smith, who was dismissed for 2 runs by Clinton Pestano.  Tyrone Theophile (32) and Kirk Edwards (22) briefly put on a 34-run partnership to briefly resuscitate the innings but that was as good as it got for the Windward as the innings quickly fell apart following their dismissals.  Ramaal Lewis was the pick of the bowlers for Guyana for claiming 25 for 4.
