Kenjige grabs three-for as USA sink Leewards

The USA's Nosthush Kenjige. The USA's Nosthush Kenjige.

USA spinner Nosthush Kenjige three-for led the team to a remarkable 88-run win over the Leeward Islands in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Cup at Bridgetown.

Sent in to bat, the United States were dismissed for 197 but in pursuit, the Leeward Islands could only muster 109 all out.  The USA found themselves in trouble early on after opener Jaskaran Malhotra (8) was caught by Devon Thomas off the bowling of Sheldon Cottrell.

In fact, the USA kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Timil Patel offering the most resistance after scoring 39 from 80 balls and Monank Patel contributing 27.  Damion Jacobs was the danger man with the ball for the Leewards after claiming 3 for 40.

In response, however, the Leewards responded disastrously after Chesney Hughes was dismissed for a duck and Akeem Saunders (9) followed soon after to leave the team at 2 for 13.  Thomas added 17 from 32 balls and  Orlando Peters 37 from 35 in a middle order stand but once the pair departed the crease, both caught behind by Malhotra, a steady procession of wickets saw the team collapse to the meagre total.
