Jamaica-born Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey is once again the centre of attention following an outburst from adopted father and agent Craig Butler who took to social media platform Instagram to voice displeasure at the club for not starting his son earlier this week.

Bailey scored a stunning 76th-minute free kick in a 6-2 loss for the team to runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the German Cup on Tuesday.  The 20-year-old, who has been one of the club’s standout players this season with 12 goals, was however initially left out of the starting line-up.  The club’s manager Rudi Voller had previously explained that the winger had been looking tired.  Bailey was brought on early in the second period, at left back, with the team trailing 2-1.

With the Leverkusen currently third in the German top tier, and on course for a return to the Champions League, this weekend’s crucial top four battle with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday was perhaps also a consideration.  Butler was, however, clearly frustrated by the decision and also accused Bailey’s Leverkusen teammates of not passing him the ball and suggested he was deployed out of position.

"They put him on the bench. They put him on at left-back. They don't pass to him. The opponent double teams him. They kick him down. What does he do? Gets up and put the free kick in the back of the damn net (sic),” Butler posted along with a clip of the player's goal.

Bailey stated earlier this year that he was happy at the club and hoped to continue to improve there, but with interest from several suitors elsewhere, including several top English clubs the latest outburst has already set tongues wagging.
