Naparima stumble as Presentation go clear at the top

By October 10, 2018

Defending Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premiership Division champions, Presentation College are now two points clear at the top of the table after Naparima College stumbled at Trinity College East on Matchday Eight.

Naparima, like Presentation College did on the weekend, struggled to a 1-1 draw, their nemesis, the dangerous Trinity College East.

That result allowed Presentation to step ahead of Naparima, as they were comfortable at home to the league’s bottom-placed team, Bishop’s High School. The 3-0 result was no surprise.

Only one other game had a result with as big a margin of victory, coming from San Juan North’s 4-1 victory over East Mucurapo Secondary.

There were three draws on matchday eight, with St Mary’s College and Queen’s Royal College playing out a 0-0 draw in their North derby, and Carapichaima East splitting four goals with Trinity College Moka both adding to Naparima’s stumble.

In the Port-of-Spain derby, St Augustine Secondary got the better of Fatima College at home with a clinical 2-0 win.

Truth be told, Fatima were very wasteful in front of goal and were hurt badly when the visitors weren’t.

The league’s leading goalscorer, Kesean St Rose, who now has eight goals, ran onto a through ball in the 39th minute and opened his body to slot a wonderful finish past the Fatima custodian.

Fatima continued to probe and should have had at least a couple of goals until the very end of the game when Nickell Alexander dribbled around his marker on the left side of the box before driving a hard-grounder to the far post that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
