Jamaica Premier League club, Portmore United Football Club has signed national player Alex Marshall on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Marshall spent the last two seasons with Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League. He had previously represented Cavalier FC in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) between 2014 and 2020.

The 24-year-old winger said he was happy to be back home.

“I’m very elated at the opportunity to again ply my trade in the JPL,” he said.

Since I last played in the league there have been encouraging changes to the competition. It is now being accessible to many countries around the world including Canada. I’m happy to join the Portmore United set up and I have always admired the club for its professionalism and competitiveness in domestic and international competitions.

“I will give my usual 100 per cent to the team and use this platform to open new doors overseas in fulfilment of my ambitions.”

Meanwhile, Portmore’s head coach Philip Williams believes Marshall will be an important addition to the team.

“Alex Marshall is a very important acquisition for us as we continue the building of our team. Alex is a proven striker in domestic football and is technically comfortable on the ball,” he said.

“I’m positive he will add value to our set up as much as we will assist him with his personal aspirations. We will continue to be patient and deliberate with our signings as we strive to get back to our customary high standard”.

Marshall represented Jamaica at the Under-17, Under-23 and senior levels. He has 13 appearances for the Reggae Boyz.

As a teenager, he was an exciting and outstanding player for St. George’s College in the Manning Cup competition.
