Member of Parliament for Western Portland Daryl Vaz will launch the much-anticipated Western Portland Night Football League in his constituency on Sunday, June 15, at Lynch Park in Portland.
The league will see 24 teams from across the constituency compete for their share of over $1 million in cash and prizes. Vaz, who highlights the important role that sports has played in the development of youth and building a stronger sense of community within his parish over the years, says that every effort is being made to ensure that this night league will be among the most memorable competitions staged within West Portland.
West Portland's Night Football League is being sponsored by the office of the Member of Parliament along with private sector companies including CALS Foods, Select Brands, Locker Room, and Superior Auto.
"This year marks 16 years since I was first sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Portland in 2009 and 19 years since I was sworn in as the constituency chairman. In that time I have invested heavily in sports and sports infrastructure in the constituency, and this night league is possible because of the work that has been done over the years," he added.
Vaz has extended an invitation to all residents and stakeholders of the constituency to be a part of the night football league, as a special prize of a bike will be awarded to a super fan at the end of the competition.
