Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados and USA 1 were among the winners in Saturday’s sixth round of the West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Championship in St. Kitts & Nevis.
Guyana secured a dominant nine-wicket win over USA 2 at St. Mary’s Park in Cayon.
After dismissing the Americans for 180 in 45 overs, they needed just 32.4 overs to reach their target, losing only one wicket in the process.
Opener Romeo Deonarine carried his bat through the innings on the way to 102* off 113 balls including 11 fours and a six while opening partner Rampersaud Ramnauth made 38 in support.
Earlier, leg-spinner Riyad Latif starred with 6-23 from eight overs to lead the Guyanese bowling effort while Nityanand Mathura picked up the other four wickets for 44 in 10 overs.
Elsewhere, Jamaica defeated Trinidad & Tobago by seven wickets at Conaree Sports Club.
Left-arm wrist spinner Vitel Lawes picked up 4-28 from eight overs as the Jamaicans dismissed T&T for 159 in 43.5 overs after the la6tter won the toss and chose to bat.
Jamaica then needed 35.3 overs to reach 162-3 thanks to half-centuries from David Dewar and Kev’Aundre Virgo.
Dewar hit 55* off 54 balls batting at number five while Virgo, who opened the batting, made 51 off 90 balls.
An exciting contest at the St. Paul’s Sports Complex saw Barbados successfully defend 142 against the Windward Islands.
The defending champions were bowled out for 142 in 43.5 overs thanks to 4-20 off eight overs from leg-spinner Isaiah Jones and 3-30 from 7.5 overs of left-arm pace from Kirsten Murray.
Then, despite 57 off 61 balls from Murray, the Bajans dismissed the Windwards for 125 in 29.2 overs, securing a 17-run victory.
Pacers Jakeem Pollard and Shaquan Belle combined for eight wickets with 4-26 in 6.2 overs and 4-41 in eight overs, respectively.
The day’s other game saw USA 1 secure a comfortable five-wicket win over the Leeward Islands at Elquemedo Willett Park.
Left-arm spinner Ansh Rai led the charge with 4-22 from 6.5 overs while Adnit Jhamb took 3-14 from five overs as the Americans dismissed the Leewards, who won the toss, for just 102 in 28.5 overs.
Amrinder Gill then hit 55* off 75 balls and Nitish Sudini hit 31 as the USA 1 needed just 23.4 overs to reach 103-5.
Round seven will take place on Monday before the place finals on Thursday.
