Christopher Taylor and Assinie Wilson delivered confident performances at the JAAA All Comers Series #3 on Saturday night, signalling growing form ahead of Jamaica’s National Championships later this month. The meet, held at the National Stadium in Kingston, featured several standout efforts across the sprints and middle distances, with strong showings in the men’s and women’s 100m capturing much of the spotlight.
Taylor, contesting the 200m, clocked 20.88 seconds into a -1.7m/s headwind, continuing his steady return to form after years of injury setbacks. The 26-year-old looked controlled throughout and is expected to decide this week whether he will focus on the 200m or 400m at Nationals.
Wilson, representing Titans International like Taylor, was similarly impressive in the men’s 400m. The 23-year-old controlled the race from start to finish to win in 49.46. His teammate Tyrece Hyman followed in 49.76, while Dennick Luke placed third in 49.95, completing a strong showing for the club.
The men’s 100m was taken by Racers Track Club’s Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, who clocked 10.31 seconds into a -1.1m/s wind. Nkrumie, 21, held off veteran sprinter Emanuel Archibald (10.35) and Ashanie Smith (10.36) in what was a competitive field despite the slightly sluggish times due to headwinds.
In the women’s equivalent, SprinTec’s Jodean Williams made a triumphant return to competition, winning in 11.27 seconds. The 32-year-old is working her way back to full fitness after suffering an injury during the World Athletics Relays earlier this year. She held off Elite Performance’s Kemba Nelson (11.32) and clubmate Ashanti Moore (11.39) in a performance that bodes well for her return to championship-level competition.
In the men’s 400m, Deandre Watkin of Elite Performance Track Club surged to a win in 45.34, ahead of Racers’ Jevaughn Powell (45.88) and Zandrion Barnes (46.09) of SprinTec. For the women, Shiann Salmon outleaned Olympic finalist Candice McLeod to take the win in 52.68, with McLeod clocking 52.75 in a hard-fought battle.
Over the barriers, Tyler Mason took the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.69 (-0.9), narrowly edging DeJour Russell (13.73), while Kerrica Hill was the class of the women’s 100m hurdles field, winning in 12.96 (-0.2) ahead of Crystal Morrison (13.04) and Yanique Thompson (13.34).
Roneisha McGregor, representing UWI Mona, claimed the women’s 200m in 23.57 (-2.2), ahead of rising star Alexxe Henry of Edwin Allen (24.10) and Chanel Honeywell (24.74).
