CAS to weigh in on Malouda ban in February
Florent Malouda will hear whether his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against a two-match ban for his appearance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year with French Guiana next month.
Malouda was fined US$3,500 fine as well as the two-match ban.
According to FIFA rules, though Malouda has 80 appearances for France, he can still turn out for French Guiana because the team is not a full member nation of the sport’s governing body.
That status comes because French Guiana is a considered an overseas department of France, rather than a full country.
Malouda was sanctioned by FIFA subsidiary, CONCACAF after Malouda played in a 0-0 draw against Honduras in July.
CONCACAF also awarded Honduras a 3-0 win, fining the French Guiana federation for Malouda’s inclusion.
