Special edition Usain Bolt Hublot fetches US$150,000 at charity auction
A special edition timepiece the Big Bang Unico Sapphire Usain Bolt For Only Watch fetched over US$150,000 (JM$19m) at a recent Only Watch charity auction in Geneva.
The timepiece, which was crafted by international renowned luxury watch manufactures Hublot, was its entry to the Only Watch event which brings together the finest watch brands in the world for a charitable cause.
The proceeds of this year’s charity auction went towards research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The disease is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. The watch features a yellow gold-coloured calfskin leather strap. The watch was shipped together with a Bolt-signed Puma T-shirt, and the highest bidder will now also have the opportunity to meet the sprinter.
Top billing at the auction went to a unique titanium Minute Repeater Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Patek Philippe 5208T watch which took the top spot with a hammer price of US$6.2m. The second most expensive watch at the event a F.P. Journe watch Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante watch achieved a hammer price of US$1.15 million.
