RSPL: Arnett keep slim lead after Portmore stalemate
Defending champions, Arnett Gardens, continue to lead the 2017-18 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) after a 0-0 draw with Portmore United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.
Going into the game with a four-point lead over last year’s runners-up, Arnett found no way to separate themselves, but neither could Portmore.
The result meant Arnett continued to lead with 19 points, ahead of Portmore on 15.
The University of the West Indies would have thought a draw between the two could have taken them to within two points of Arnett, but a 1-1 draw with an ever-improving Cavalier SC meant they made no headway either.
Harbour View, in fifth place on 13 points have a great opportunity to leapfrog Tivoli, UWI, and Portmore when they play against Reno FC tonight at the Harbour View Stadium.
Reno will be no pushovers though, as the side from Westmoreland in the island’s west, showed they had quality last week with a 3-0 win over Portmore United.
It is a question, though, of which Reno will turn up, as they had failed to win in four outings before their victory over Portmore last week.
Tivoli find themselves fourth in the league courtesy of a 2-0 win over Humble Lion at the Edward Seaga Stadium, but that could just be a temporary affair, given Harbour View’s fixture on Monday night.
Waterhouse’s woes are still very present after they lost 1-0 Montego Bay United, and are very much mired in the relegation zone on seven points.
Speaking of the relegation zone, Boys’ Town, who started the RSPL season with the promise of enjoying a better season than they did last time out, are struggling badly, suffering another loss, but more than that, giving newcomers to the league, Sandals their first victory.
Sandals are now on six points, one behind Waterhouse and Boys’ Town.
