Hydel secures Group C, St. George's beaten in Manning Cup
Hydel High School secured Group C honours while St Catherine surprised St George’s in ISSA-FLOW Manning Cup action on Wednesday.
The group leaders made it nine wins from nine starts when they got by second place Camperdown at Bellevue. The win takes Hydel three points clear of Camperdown with a game in hand. Camperdown have played their full quota of 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Waterford rebounded from two straight losses to edge St Mary’s College 2-1 at Above Rocks to lie third in the group on 15 points with one game left to play. Cumberland was the other winner in the group Wednesday, blanking Meadowbrook 2-0.
The upset of the day occurred in Group D where St George’s College, leaders going into the match, were beaten 2-0 by S,t Catherine High who now leads with 23 points, one more than the light blues, who have a game in hand. It was St George’s first loss of the season.
In a match of academic importance played at Tivoli High School, Denham Town won their second in a row after they outscored Kingston Technical 3-2. They lie fourth in the group on 12 points with a game in hand, one point behind Kingston Technical who have played their full allotment of matches.
In a bottom-of-the-group clash, Tarrant High and Vauxhall battled to a 0-0 stalemate at Tarrant High.
In Group F, Holy Trinity demonstrated that they are the class of the group, spanking second place Clan Carthy 3-0 to end the preliminary round unbeaten and 10 points clear. Further down, bottom-placed Ascott earned their first win of the season, beating Edith Dalton James 2-0 at Ascott.
Meanwhile, St. Jago won their second in a row beating Jose Marti, 3-0.
