Portmore United to face San Juan Jabloteh's Jamaican stars
A trio of San Juan Jabloteh standouts will face their former club on Thursday, when the Trinidadian power takes on Jamaica’s Portmore United in the 2017 Caribbean Club Championship final round game at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Adrian Reid, Keithy Simpson and Damion Williams – each Jamaican – are looking forward to this encounter and believe they have a point to prove.
Although the winner will finish atop the Group B table to earn a place in the final, Jabloteh can progress with only a draw thanks to goal difference.
“It's actually great that we meet at a high level,” said 27-year-old midfielder Keithy Simpson.
“It goes to show they we Jamaicans are doing well. I enjoyed my time at Portmore United and, as they know, I am a player who loves to represent my club well.
“Unfortunately, this time it's against them, but such is the beautiful game of football and I am happy we are both here and will be in CONCACAF tournaments down the road. However, come Thursday, I will not be sympathetic. We will be going for the victory to go to the final.”
Reid, who made three appearances for Jamaica in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, echoed those sentiments.
“It is going to be a very intriguing day for me,” the 32-year-old defender expressed. “Portmore United gave me the opportunity to play football and it was through Portmore where I broke through in the national team as well for Jamaica, so I have a lot to be grateful for.
“I appreciated all my time at Portmore, however, I am with San Juan Jabloteh and that is where my effort will be. I also know that the winner of this game will be in the final of the [competition], so no matter what, a Jamaican will be in the final. I just hope it is Keithy, Damion and I and that is what we will be aiming to do.”
